Rivers 2027: Kingsley Chinda Pledges to Restore Port Harcourt’s “Garden City” Glory

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE — As the 2027 elections draw closer, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda is making his plans clear. The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Rivers State wants to restore Port Harcourt’s proud identity as Nigeria’s “Garden City.”

Chinda won the APC ticket in May 2026. He currently represents the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Now, he is making environmental care a key part of his campaign, drawing on his past success as the Rivers State Commissioner for Environment.

A Strong Record in Environmental Care

Chinda’s campaign points to his past work to show he is ready to handle city sanitation, tree planting, and public spaces.

During his time as Commissioner of Environment, Chinda launched several major programs to tackle waste and keep the state clean. These included:

• Rivgreen Marshals: A special team created to enforce environmental rules and monitor public areas.

• Technical Committee on Environmental Sanitation: A group focused on finding real, working solutions for waste management.

• Rivgreen Clubs and Corporate Forum: School and community groups built to teach young people and businesses about protecting the environment.

These programs successfully pushed for better sanitation, more tree planting, and beautiful public spaces across Rivers State.

Backing Green Policies with Law

Kingsley Chinda has always believed that keeping the environment clean requires both action and strong laws. During a major environmental meeting on June 4, 2009, he stressed the need for strict rules on air pollution, saying:

“The Rivers State Ministry of Environment (RSMENV) is putting up an emission legislation which, when passed, will become a law to regulate fumes.”

He also challenged every citizen to take personal responsibility for nature. Highlighting the power of tree planting, he stated:

“If every person in Rivers State planted a tree, then we would have planted 6 million trees. We should contribute to cleaning Port Harcourt in order to return it to the Garden City status.”

The 2027 Plan: “OK is Okay”

Now, Chinda is bringing this same energy to his 2027 governorship race. His environmental plan for Rivers State includes four main goals:

• Better Waste Management: Fixing how the state collects and gets rid of trash.

• Mass Tree Planting: Planting more trees in cities to fight pollution and improve the look of the state.

• Environmental Education: Teaching environmental care in schools.

• Cleaner Public Spaces: Upgrading parks, walkways, and shared community areas.

The Chinda campaign has a clear goal: to create a cleaner, healthier Rivers State and bring back the Garden City.

Using his popular initials, the campaign’s message to voters is simple: “With O.K. Chinda, our environment will be OK. OK IS OKAY!”
